150 HP @ 4200 rpm (Torque 245 @ 2500 rpm) The AMC 304 uses a cast iron block and heads with over head valves and hydraulic lifters. The AMC 304 was introduced in Jeep vehicles in 1971 in J-series pickups and Wagoneers and in 1972 in the CJ vehicles. Early 304s performed well, so well that frame changes were made to the CJs in '73 to prevent cracks.

With a maximum top speed of - mph (km/h), a curb weight of 2707 lbs (1228 kgs), the CJ 7 5.0 V8 has a naturally-aspirated V 8 cylinder engine, Petrol motor. This engine produces a maximum power of 128 PS (126 bhp - 94 kW) at 3600 rpm and a maximum torque of 296.0 Nm (218 lb.ft) at 3600 rpm. In 1991 Chrysler Corporation, then the owners of the Jeep brand, redesigned the engine control computer and the intake ports; the camshaft profile was also changed. The result was an engine that made 190 hp (142 kW) and 225 ftlbf (305 Nm) of torque. Small changes were made to the cylinder head for the 1995 model year.

Ammeter, Heat Indicator Gauge, Speedometer, Oil Pressure Gauge, Fuel Level Gauge. The small speedometer (similar to the CJ-2A and CJ-3A) used in early models was manufactured by King-Seeley (KS). An Auto-Lite unit was used in Jeeps that registered in kilometers.

Starting as early as serial number 57348-34422 in the 1957 model year, a new larger speedometer/instrument cluster was used. Through serial number 57348-35521 it was a King-Seeley, and begining with 35522 there were Stewart-Warner (SW) units in 6 and 12-volt, and miles and kilometers.
